Career goals
My career goals sit at the intersection of public opinion, political science and political communication. I want to understand how political narratives are built, tested and delivered, whether that means reporting on them as a journalist or shaping them as a communications strategist. Long-term, I’m drawn to roles where research and storytelling converge. I am interested in a career where I can help all people become better-informed citizens by reaching them through platforms they know and understand.
Student worker
I am currently the La Follette Outreach Team’s Student Outreach Assistant. Working with the communications and outreach team at La Follette has been a valuable experience that has greatly enhanced my communication, organization, and event planning skills which are applicable to every aspect of my career aspirations. I have been able to work collaboratively on promoting projects and events that have significant impact on UW-Madison and the State of Wisconsin as a whole.
What do you enjoy most about working with La Follette students or staff?
I love the supportive and engaging environment that La Follette students and staff provide. Every day these groups tackle complex policy questions or events with many moving parts, and the staff and students work together to solve them all. La Follette serves as a public benefit to campus, the city, and the state. La Follette students and staff are doing extremely important and fruitful work behind the scenes, and getting to be a part of it has been such an incredible experience!
A project that best illustrates the work you do at La Follette
One project I’m especially proud of is the article “The Power of the Badger Network — Students and Alumni Unite for Eat & Greet Series.” Our outreach team organized informal networking events, Eat & Greets, for students and government professionals in settings designed to spark conversation and connection. Getting to help create these experiences and then tell their story for the broader campus and city community is exactly the kind of work I love. It sits right at the intersection of communications and public affairs, which is where I want to build my career.

Mindy Walker, Outreach Engagement Manager at La Follette, has been an invaluable mentor throughout my time as a student worker. Her depth of experience in both political environments and organizational roles makes her an exceptional resource, and her work expanding La Follette’s reach across Wisconsin reflects both her expertise and her commitment to impact. Her guidance has meaningfully shaped my professional development and I am so lucky to continue working with her!
