Why the La Follette School?

I have always hoped to pursue professional schooling after my undergraduate career. However, I was unsure whether to pursue a doctorate in political science, to pursue a law degree, or some other similar degree. I made it a priority to pursue law school with a secondary school in the back of my head. Fortunately, I was admitted to Madison for law. While I was developing skills in law, I felt there was something missing. I reached out to La Follette admissions to determine whether it would be a right fit, and I was convinced that day I should pursue an MPA.

Advice for prospective La Follette School students

My general advice to prospective La Follette students is to both keep up with studies and to relax on feeling uncomfortable with the schoolwork. On the one hand, there are very qualified and knowledgeable professors teaching these courses. As a result, the schoolwork will generally reflect that. On the other hand, the student cohort is a diverse group with diverse backgrounds. To provide La Follette graduates with the necessary skills for the workforce, the first year of schooling is standardized. Essentially, everyone generally starts on the same page, so you are likely not alone with figuring out the coursework.

Most rewarding La Follette School experience

The most rewarding experience at La Follette has been the reception of La Follette’s administrative staff, my professors, and my cohort. I had not expected such a warm welcome. My previous experiences involved relationships that felt artificial. La Follette, however, does a very good job at fostering genuine and supportive relationships.

Wisconsin Idea

I was not only familiar with the Wisconsin Idea but pursued additional professional degrees to better practice the Wisconsin Idea in my professional career. While I was grateful for utilizing my undergraduate degree for bettering the local communities of Eau Claire and Madison, I had ambition to elevate my impact by pursuing an MPA and JD degree. While I have been able to work pro bono, I am currently seeking voluntary and local commissions to make an impact.

How has the La Follette School changed the way you think about public policy?

When I had completed my undergraduate degree in political science, I was under the impression that I explored all there was in the political realm. La Follette elevated my understanding of public policy by providing me with professors that excel in their fields of work.

Before the La Follette School

Before enrolling in La Follette, I completed my first-year curriculum at law school and participated in my first law summer position as a legal clerk for the Office of Governor Evers.

La Follette School Student Association

I am currently apart of the La Follette School Student Association as the first year Graduation Coordinator. I am actively working with the second year Graduation Coordinator to organize graduation of spring 2026, including music performers, keynote speakers, and other logistical factors.
