President and chief executive officer of WPS Health Solutions Mike Hamerlik joined the La Follette School Board of Visitors in 2015.
During his tenure at WPS, a not-for-profit health insurer and federal contractor whose services have grown to include supporting active-duty and retired military personnel, seniors, and families in Wisconsin, across the U.S., and internationally, Hamerlik has emphasized strategic thinking. His work at WPS has resulted in new health insurance products, enhanced traditional health insurance products, transparent communications with employees and the community, and solution-focused problem-solving.
Before joining WPS, Hamerlik was president and CEO of Noridian Administrative Services for 10 years, and he was executive vice president of government and corporate operations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. He also served as a member of the North Dakota House of Representatives for six years.
A graduate of the University of North Dakota’s School of Law, Hamerlik serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Dane County. He is president of the Alliance of Health Insurers, U.A. Wisconsin, a state health insurance industry and consumer group.
“It has been an honor to serve on the Board of Visitors for La Follette,” says Hamerlik. “As a business leader, it’s great to connect with the community while providing guidance to the school. By supporting future leaders in public policy, we can ensure that alumni go on to improve the lives of others in our state and beyond. I share the belief that ‘the future starts at home’ and here in Madison, Wisconsin we are doing great things.”
The La Follette School Board of Visitors plays a vital part in providing guidance to the school. Established in 2015, the board is comprised of business partners and other collaborators representing the public and private sectors who are interested in seeing the La Follette School succeed. Hamerlik has been a part of the board nearly all that time, and the La Follette School is grateful to him for sharing his extensive expertise with the board and the school.
