Michael Powell joins La Follette as an assistant professor. He earned his PhD in Political Science at the University of Missouri after spending nearly a decade as a nonprofit executive and attorney working in the conservation land trust sector. His research focuses on comparative environmental policy, specifically the intersections between humans, ecology, and land use, as well as comparative political study more broadly. This fall he is teaching PA 874: Policymaking Process.

Katherine Richard joins La Follette as an assistant professor. Her research quantifies barriers in the U.S. social safety net that exacerbate economic instability for families. She received a PhD in Economics & Public Policy from the University of Michigan and has affiliations with the McCourt School of Public Policy’s Better Government Lab, the Opportunity & Inclusive Growth Institute, and the Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities. This fall she is teaching PA 881: Cost-Benefit Analysis.

Sarah Strochak joins La Follette as an assistant professor. She studies housing policy, with an emphasis on evaluating how the design and administration of affordable housing programs can affect program take-up, outcomes for participants, and economic outcomes more broadly. Her current work focuses on the Housing Choice Voucher program. Prior to joining La Follette, she completed her PhD in Public Policy at NYU Wagner. She has affiliations with the NYU Furman Center and the Eviction Lab at Princeton University. This fall she is teaching PA 818: Introduction to Statistical Methods for Policy Analysis.
