Nino Amato (MA ’76) is running for Madison City Council – District 19 Alder. Amato is a former president of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board has lectured in the engineering department at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Matthew Fulton (MA ’82) was featured in a story by the International City/County Management Association, which recognizes professionals who have had unique local government experiences through global knowledge exchange and fellowship programs.
Derek Field (MPA ’17) is running for Madison City Council – District 3 Alder. Field was elected in April 2023 to represent the east side of Madison surrounding Stoughton Road. He is currently an institutional policy analyst in the Office of Data, Academic Planning and Institutional Research at UW–Madison, where he uses data to analyze how the university serves the student body.
Kassandra Martinchek (MPA ’19) published a new tool along with colleagues at the Urban Institute showing that SNAP benefits will fail to cover the cost of a modestly priced meal in every county in the US if policymakers roll back the 2021 update to the Thrifty Food Plan. Martinchek works as a senior research associate at the Urban Institute.
Erik Gartland (MPA ’20) helped to publish a new report which analyzes the location and neighborhood characteristics of households using federal rental assistance living in the 100 largest metro areas. The analysis was conducted through the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, where Gartland works as a research analyst.
Allie Kalik (MPA ’22) is starting a new position as a senior consultant at Guidehouse. Previously, she worked as an advisory associate and a consultant for Guidehouse.
Michael Luckey (MPA ’23) was recommended as the next Jefferson County Administrator. The Jefferson County Administrator is responsible for implementing policies adopted by the Board of Supervisors and overseeing day-to-day operations of the county’s 680 employees. They present the county’s annual budget and appoint members to boards and positions. Luckey has been serving in the position as the interim since December. Before his interim position, Luckey was Wehmeier’s assistant where he helped implement the county’s priorities.
Ben Vargas (MIPA ’23) has accepted a position as senior grant and contract officer position at the University of Minnesota. Previously, he worked as a broadband fiscal liaison at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
