Peter Tempelis (MPA, JD ’06) was selected a Legal Innovator of the Year by the State Bar of Wisconsin for his efforts to “improve the system when dealing with domestic violence cases, juvenile offenders and others in ways that no one else had considered.” Since 2019, Tempelis has served as an assistant district attorney in Waukesha County.
H.J. Waukau (MIPA ’12) was promoted to legislative director at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) in October. He joined DHS a year earlier as deputy legislative liaison after nearly five years with the Wisconsin Medical Society.
Brett Halverson (MPA ’14) joined UW–Madison’s Office of University Relations as assistant director of state relations in October. Halverson previously served as deputy legislative director for State Rep. Gordon Hintz (MPA ’01) and as manager of public policy for the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce. He also is a trustee in the Village of Mount Horeb.
Ron Steinhoff (MPA ’20) joined the U.S. Department of Justice as a management and program analyst for the FBI in Washington, DC. He previously worked for Deloitte in federal health and national security policy and was a Rosenthal Fellow in the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Homeland Defense & Global Security.
Tamanna Akram-Turenne (MIPA ’21) was named development and communications manager for North Helpline in Seattle, Washington. The nonprofit organization helps people obtain food, housing, respect, and other “basic needs that affirm their human dignity and worth.”
