Alumni gather for 1st virtual reunion

Thirty-seven alumni, including several from the recently added Class of 2021, participated in the La Follette School’s first all-virtual alumni reunion May 13.

Participants visited with former classmates in breakout rooms based on their graduation year, with the Classes of 1992, 2008, and 2021 having separate rooms due to the high turnout. Alumni also were asked to estimate the number of living alumni from the La Follette School, La Follette Institute, and Center for the Study of Public Policy and Administration. Can you guess the answer? (See end of article for answer)

La Follette School Director and Professor Susan Webb Yackee welcomed the alumni and gave a brief update on their alma mater.

“The state of the school is strong,” said Yackee. “Two new undergraduate certificate programs are broadening our reach on campus, and our faculty and staff are growing as well. We also have seen increased engagement among our alumni and are deeply grateful for their support.”

The all-virtual reunion culminated this spring’s Alumni Connections 2021 events. On April 15, more than 50 alumni and students participated in a networking event, and on February 28, alumni from 15 states joined a panel discussion with six emeritus and current faculty members about The Importance of Public Policy Before, During, and After COVID-19.
