Alumni and friends support student DC trip on Fill the Hill

On October 24–25, La Follette School alumni and friends raised over $5,700 during Fill the Hill to support the school’s upcoming student career trip to Washington, D.C.

Fill the Hill is UW-Madison’s annual fall fundraising event. In celebration of one of UW–Madison’s most famous pranks, every donation to the university during the event places a pink lawn flamingo on Bascom Hill.

Donations from this year’s event will support a Washington, D.C., career visit for La Follette School graduate students. Every two years, students meet employers and alumni in D.C., making invaluable connections that help shape their future careers. A record 43 students will participate in the January 2025 trip.

D.C.-based alum Don Eggert (MPA ’15) was instrumental in helping plan this year’s campaign and engage alumni and friends living in the district. Eggert also contributed the first donation of $1,000 during Fill the Hill, making him one of the honorary hosts of the January 15 reception for alumni and friends to meet visiting students.

“I look forward to meeting the La Follette students who are coming to D.C.,” he said. “I hope that their visit provides valuable insight into the opportunities that federal civil service offers.” Eggert serves as a senior budget analyst at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Alumni in D.C. and elsewhere who are interested in engaging with La Follette School can contact Director of Strategic Initiatives Lisa Ellinger (MPA ’03) at lisa.ellinger@wisc.edu.
