About Sébastien Philippe

Sébastien Philippe is the founder of Evident, a research lab at UW–Madison dedicated to understanding and reducing the risks posed by nuclear weapons and emerging technologies to international peace and security. He is a 2025 MacArthur Fellow.

About the presentation

How can science make a greater impact on policy and diplomacy? This talk “Nuclear Science in the Public Interest” explores how independent research, open-source investigation, and collaborations with journalists and frontline communities can bring new evidence into public debate. Drawing on work on nuclear war effects, the legacy of nuclear weapons testing, nuclear weapons modernization and production, and hidden uranium extraction and supply chains, it examines how scientists can develop and communicate evidence in ways that inform policy and diplomacy, shape public debate, and strengthen accountability.
