Milwaukee is facing rising housing costs and a limited supply of affordable housing. These issues are connected and complex. Solving them requires multiple perspectives and voices. This is why we want to hear from the people who call Milwaukee home.

We invite Milwaukee residents to be part of Milwaukee’s Community Assembly on Housing on November 14. This is not your traditional public meeting. It is a nonpartisan, facilitated process that will bring together a representative group of Milwaukee residents to learn about local housing challenges and develop concrete recommendations for the City of Milwaukee.

Main Street Agenda

UW–Madison’s Division of Extension Community Development Institute and the La Follette School of Public Affairs are partnering to hold community assemblies across Wisconsin to help find solutions to some of the state’s most complex and pressing problems. A community assembly is a small-scale forum in which a representative group comes together to learn, deliberate, and make recommendations about a specific issue or proposal. While community assemblies harken back to ancient Greece, they have regained popularity in recent years as a way to engage communities in addressing complex issues, ranging from affordable housing to digital safety.
