Brenton Scholarships Support Future Leaders in Health Policy
Since 2016, the La Follette School has awarded the annual Stephen F. Brenton Health Policy Scholarship to a graduate student seeking to pursue a career in the health sector.
Achievements featured in Highlights report
The 2020–2021 academic year gave the La Follette School many opportunities to celebrate, despite the many unprecedented challenges. The School welcomed 11 faculty members, honored 50 amazing master’s degree graduates, and grew its undergraduate course enrollment to more than 400 students.
Students collaborate with Sixteenth Street health centers, other clients
Client-based projects provide tremendous opportunities for La Follette School graduate students and local, state, national, and international partners. This year, several projects for the Workshop course focused on issues related to equity and serving under-resourced communities.
Public Policy Certificate enrollment to surpass 200 undergraduate students
For the 2021–22 academic year, the La Follette School’s Undergraduate Certificate in Public Policy program will increase its enrollment to more than 200 students.
La Follette School awards 64 undergraduate certificates
Sixty-four students who received undergraduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in May also earned a Certificate in Public Policy from the La Follette School of Public Affairs.

Recognizing interest among undergraduate students to gain skills for improving the U.S. healthcare system, as well as demand among employers, the La Follette School of Public Affairs is launching a Certificate in Health Policy.
7 certificate students earn bachelor’s degrees
Seven UW–Madison undergraduate students received certificates in public policy from the La Follette School along with their bachelor’s degrees in December 2020.
New Certificate in Public Policy students welcomed
Faculty, staff, and students welcomed the second Certificate in Public Policy class of students to the La Follette School on Oct. 28. The class of 127 students represents five schools and colleges across campus: College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, School of Education, School of Human Ecology, School of Business, and College of Letters & Science. Student majors range from anthropology to zoology.

Like everyone across the globe, Dr. Allison Couture (MPA ’20) had her world turned upside down when COVID-19 struck. However, Couture had a unique vantage point: as a master’s degree student at the La Follette School of Public Affairs and as a practicing doctor.
