About
David Schmiedicke is a career budget and finance professional with more than 30 years of experience in Wisconsin state and local government. Since July 2011, he has served as the City of Madison’s finance director.
Previously, Schmiedicke was state budget director and deputy state budget director from 2001 to 2011 – appointed by governors of both parties. He began his career as a budget and management analyst with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and then served as administrator of the State of Wisconsin Building Program, secretary of the State Building Commission, and a team leader and analyst in the State Budget Office.
Schmiedicke is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association Executive Board and the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ representative to the State and Local Advisory Council of the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board. He also has served on the Executive Committee of the National Association of State Budget Officers and as chair of the Governmental Budget and Fiscal Policy Committee of the Government Finance Officers Association.
