La Follette School Professor Susan Yackee and Associate Director Hilary Shager will lead two of the five panel discussions at the opening conference of the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

La Follette School Associate Director Hilary Shager (MPA ’05, PhD ’12) will discuss Early Childhood in Action: How to Connect with Policymakers and Make a Difference on Wednesday, February 28. The presentation is part of the Families and Well-Being Seminar Series organized by UW–Madison’s Center for Child and Family Well-Being.

Razan Al-Dagher (MPA ’18) and Hilary Shager (MPA ’05, PhD ’12) drew on family experiences for their messages to the La Follette School Class of 2018 on May 13 at the State Capitol.

The La Follette School of Public Affairs is coordinating a day at the State Capitol for 25 young African leaders visiting the University of Wisconsin–Madison for six weeks as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship.

The La Follette School of Public Affairs and the University of Wisconsin–Madison welcomed 37 legislators from 11 states and three Canadian provinces for the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) in August. 

A bipartisan group of 23 legislative staff of the Wisconsin Assembly completed a certificate in public affairs in June. The La Follette School of Public Affairs offered the professional development course in partnership with Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Burlington), Assembly Democratic Leader Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) (MPA, ’01), and the UW-Madison Chancellor’s Office.

Professor Don Moynihan, an internationally recognized public management expert, has succeeded Professor Susan Webb Yackee as director of UW-Madison’s La Follette School of Public Affairs. Yackee, meanwhile, will continue to serve as director of the La Follette School’s Board of Visitors.

La Follette School Professors Don Moynihan and Dave Weimer offered presentations about their areas of expertise during the 2017 National Legislative Program Evaluation Society (NLPES) Conference in Madison this fall. Associate Director Hilary Shager also served on a panel discussion about recruiting and onboarding evaluators during the event.

All of La Follette’s pillars are exactly the skills I use to succeed every day at my job: critically analyzing both qualitative and quantitative information, using those analyses to draw verifiable conclusions, and succinctly communicating my ideas and conclusions via both verbal and written communication.

Mo O’Connor joined the La Follette School of Public Affairs as its student services coordinator June 26. She serves as the school’s admissions and advising coordinator, sharing information with prospective students and complementing faculty academic advisors.
