Alumnus Nicolini retires after 35+ years of public service
Mark Nicolini (MA ’83) retired in September 2017 as the city of Milwaukee’s budget and management director, a position he had held since 2004. Throughout his career, he has shared his expertise with and provided guidance to dozens of La Follette School students.

Two La Follette School students gained wide-ranging experience during summer fellowships with the Chicago Mayor’s Office from June through August 2017.
Summer internships provide students with experience in U.S., abroad
Summer internships took La Follette School students to Germany, California, Missouri, Chicago, India, Washington, D.C., and other locations during 2017. Several students stayed in Wisconsin, gaining valuable experience at government agencies, with nonprofit organizations, and in the private sector.
MIPA student Frankel receives foreign-studies fellowship
Cassie Frankel, a second-year student at the La Follette School of Public Affairs received a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship for the 2017–18 academic year. Frankel will use the fellowship to study Arabic through UW–Madison’s Center for European Studies.
