La Follette students meet alumni, visit employers on Chicago exchange visit
Nineteen graduate students participated in the La Follette School’s third career exploration visit to Chicago in October 2019. Over two days, students visited four employers and learned about career paths during a panel discussion with alumni.

MPA student Jorgensen a Rhodes finalist
Lauren Jorgensen, a second-year student at the La Follette School, reached the final stage of competition for a Rhodes Scholarship, the oldest and most celebrated college award for international study. Jorgensen and two other UW–Madison students were among the finalists for the coveted awards.
Student's op-ed on funding local public services published
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review recently published an op-ed by La Follette School student Charles Pratt about payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTs). Pratt, an officer with the City of Madison Police Department, wrote the op-ed for the State and Local Government Finance (PA 891) course.

Alumni, friends, students, faculty, and staff will gather Tuesday, September 3 for the La Follette School’s annual Hill Fest welcome picnic. Hill Fest will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the beautiful La Follette grounds overlooking Lake Mendota at 1225 Observatory Drive.
Experiences shape 2019 graduation speakers' focus on service
With an emphasis on service, 48 La Follette School students celebrated their graduation Sunday, May 12 in the Wisconsin Capitol’s Assembly Chamber. How fitting, then, that one of the state’s most well-known public servants – former U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl – attended the ceremony.
1st Accelerated Student Gathering a success
Graduating and continuing students in the La Follette School’s Accelerated Program gathered Monday, May 6 to welcome incoming students and share advice and wisdom for a successful transition into the master’s degree program. Ben McBride, Jonny Vannucci, and Sally Rohrer helped plan this first-time event.

Representing Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate for 24 years, Herb Kohl demonstrated his deep commitment to public service and his ethos of civility in public debate and policymaking. A $10 million gift from Herb Kohl Philanthropies to the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s La Follette School of Public Affairs extends the reach of that legacy.
