Under sunny skies, 100+ celebrate new academic year
Mother Nature saved some of the summer’s best weather for the La Follette School’s annual Hill Fest celebration. Atop Observatory Hill and under blue skies, more than 120 students, alumni, friends, faculty, and staff marked the start of the 2016–17 academic year with a picnic dinner and enthusiastic conversations.

Workshop reports by the La Follette School of Public Affairs’ Class of 2016 shed light on some of the most challenging local, national, and international policy issues. One report – about the potential for long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) to mitigate the negative effects of unintended pregnancies – has received national media attention.
Students’ research presented to prestigious National Academies

Former Gov. Tommy Thompson returns to Assembly Chamber, addresses Class of 2016
Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson was right at home Sunday, May 15, when he addressed the Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs’ Class of 2016 at the state Capitol. A two-time graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Thompson began his political career in the Wisconsin Assembly Chamber – the same room where 35 of the La Follette School’s 38 graduates received their diplomas.
8 student teams to present Workshop projects Friday, April 29
Second-year students at the La Follette School of Public Affairs will present practice versions of their culminating projects for the Workshop in Public Affairs and the Workshop in International Public Affairs – the capstone courses for the School’s two master’s degree programs – Friday, April 29.

The La Follette School of Public Affairs’ first day-long career exploration program in Milwaukee provided graduate and undergraduate students with opportunities to learn from alumni and others working in government and public policy organizations.
