1982 alum Daniel Speckhard will become the next president and chief executive officer of Lutheran World Relief in July.

While Howard Mandeville was waiting for a meeting to start, he saw a woman he knew come into the lobby to let someone into her condo building. The significance would be lost on most people, but for Mandeville, a 1986 alum, the act summed up the social changes he has helped to forge throughout his career assisting people with disabilities to live independently in the community.

Public affairs students suspect that the 1850s abode that houses the La Follette School could be a little more energy efficient — and the university's student government agrees.

Students elect board members

The La Follette School Student Association has elected officers for the 2014-15 academic year.
The La Follette School Student Association is taking orders for fleece jackets with the University of Wisconsin-Madison La Follette School of Public Affairs logo. Deadline is Friday.
The La Follette School is pleased to welcome 2005 alum Hilary Shager as the new associate director.

Alum to receive leadership award

2013 alum Tawsif Anam will receive an award from the Urban League of Greater Madison Young Professionals chapter at its March 29 Emerge Gala.
Twenty-one women took part in the 14th annual leadership training seminar sponsored by Wisconsin Women in Government and the La Follette School of Public Affairs.
The La Follette School Student Association is selling fleece jackets and vests, and short-sleeve polos and long-sleeve dress shirts with the University of Wisconsin–Madison La Follette School of Public Affairs logo.
President Barack Obama has nominated La Follette School professor Maria Cancian for assistant secretary for children and families (family support) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
