I chose the La Follette School because its commitment to practicing the Wisconsin Idea really resonated with me. I was drawn to UW-Madison’s longstanding commitment to extending its expertise beyond campus borders to solve problems and make positive changes throughout the state, the nation, and the world.
The interviewers at the Government Accountability Office were extremely impressed by the coursework that is offered at the La Follette School. Specifically, Professor Moynihan’s public management course, as well as Professor Wallace’s statistical analysis course.
The classmates and professors I’ve met are some of the smartest, most reflective, and most passionate people I have known.
My interest in policy stems from the idea that if you would like to see positive change, you need to take informed action.
Nineteen graduate students participated in the La Follette School’s third career exploration visit to Chicago in October 2019. Over two days, students visited four employers and learned about career paths during a panel discussion with alumni.
In addition to their passion for public policy and governance, La Follette School students bring wide-ranging talents to the University of Wisconsin–Madison. One student, Atiya Rose Siddiqi, recently became a published author.
Rourke O’Brien’s course on Inequality, Race and Public Policy helped me develop an understanding of the policy-making process and how it is impacted by social factors. Mark Copelovitch’s course on International Governance also helped me learn about policy-making in intergovernmental institutions.
