A very special thank you to the 111 alumni and other donors who contributed to the La Follette School during UW–Madison’s second Day of the Badger. With a generous $10,000 incentive gift from Michael (MA ’82) and JoAnn Youngman, the School raised nearly $24,600 to support under-represented students in its graduate degree programs.
Congratulations to the Class of 2018 for winning the La Follette School’s first Day of the Badger Class Competition. More than one-quarter of 2018 graduates donated to the La Follette School during UW–Madison’s inaugural day of giving (actually 1,848 minutes).
La Follette School student Erik Gartland and alumnus Brett Halverson (MPA ’14) were accepted into the New Leaders Council (NLC) fellowship program for spring 2019.
Dan Marlin (MPA ’14) and Anna Edelstein were married July 29 in Milwaukee. Marlin is a researcher and program evaluator with the Wisconsin Evaluation Collaborative at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research at UW–Madison, and Edelstein is a financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors.
Portland Business Journal selected Sarah Foster (MPA, MPH ’14) for its 40 under 40 class of 2018. Foster will receive the award June 22 for her work as executive director of the Oregon Healthiest State Initiative.

Director Don Moynihan announced May 10 the appointment of Steve Kulig (MPA ’14) as the La Follette School’s associate director. Kulig, the school’s department administrator and career services coordinator since April 2016, replaces Hilary Shager (MPA ’05, PhD ’12), who joined UW–Madison’s Institute for Research on Poverty earlier this year.
Taking the quantitative analysis coursework – both semesters of statistics and cost-benefit analysis – was key in helping me be prepared for state budget work immediately after graduation.
Leona Yi-Fan Su (MPA ’14) joined the Department of Communication at the University of Utah as assistant professor in communicating science, health, environment and risk.
At the moment, I am in the midst of three vastly different and exciting research projects. I am looking at pharmaceutical corporate charitable giving, executive compensation, and income sources for those living on and off Native American tribal lands.
