La Follette School student Erik Gartland and alumnus Brett Halverson (MPA ’14) were accepted into the New Leaders Council (NLC) fellowship program for spring 2019.
2006 alumna Klippel leading UW–Madison Budget Office
Jennifer Klippel (MPA ’06) was named director of UW–Madison’s Budget Office on January 9. She served as interim director since July 2018, succeeding Tim Norris, who led the office since 2004.
Alumna Shager sharing IRP’s efforts to reduce poverty during WN@TL
Hilary Shager (MPA ’05, PhD ’12) will discuss the Institute for Research on Poverty’s efforts to bring rigorous scientific evidence to bear on some of society’s thorniest problems during Wednesday Nite @ The Lab (WN@TL) January 16 from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
Alumnus, 2 others join Board of Visitors
The La Follette School of Public Affairs welcomes three members to its Board of Visitors, including Jason Gerlach, a 1996 alumnus of the school and of UW–Madison’s Law School. Eric Borgerding and David Lubar also joined the 15-member Board.

La Follette School faculty sharing research at APPAM conference
Six La Follette School faculty and emeritus faculty members and numerous faculty affiliates will present their research at the 2018 Association for Public Policy and Management (APPAM) Annual Fall Research Conference from November 8 to 10 in Washington, DC. Emilia Tjernström, an assistant professor of public affairs and agricultural and applied economics, also will attend the conference as a 40 for 40 Fellow.

Trivia masters Marlin, Edelstein marry
Dan Marlin (MPA ’14) and Anna Edelstein were married July 29 in Milwaukee. Marlin is a researcher and program evaluator with the Wisconsin Evaluation Collaborative at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research at UW–Madison, and Edelstein is a financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors.
