Students plan fall social events

A number of social events for La Follette School students are on tap this fall.

Two happy·hours are set, the first on Monday, September 26, at Vintage Spirits & Grill, 529 University Avenue, from 5 to 7 p.m. Happy hour specials include half off domestic taps and $2 rail mixers. "If it is a nice day we can enjoy their patio," says Katie Kruse, La Follette School Student Association social coordinator.

The second happy hour is Tuesday, October 18, from 8 to 10:30 p.m., conveniently after the first econ and stats exams that first-year students take. That gathering will be at The Stadium Bar, 1419 Monroe Street, near Camp Randall.

LSSA has accepted a challenge from students in the Urban and Regional Planning Department for a kickball game. The showdown is at 4 p.m. at Vilas Park on Friday, October 14. The La Follette School and URPL share a double-degree program.

A hay ride will be Wednesday, October 26, at Olin Park, followed by a campfire. The 30-minute hay ride starts at 7:15 p.m. and is led by the Madison Parks Division. The size of the fee depends on the number of attendees, but it should be less than $7 a person, Kruse says. To secure a spot, email her at This email address is being protected from spambots. Students, faculty and staff can mix it up over lunch on Tuesday, November 15. Professors Bob Haveman, Bobbi Wolfe and Susan Yackee plan to eat lunch with students and talk about research and public policy issues in the school's conference room from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. The school's student services will provide pizza.
