La Follette School student Maureen Purcell is one of 30 women selected for Emerge Wisconsin’s Class of 2020. Emerge Wisconsin is an affiliate of Emerge, which has trained more than 4,000 women across the country to run for public office since 2002.
A student in the Master of Public Affairs (MPA) program, Purcell was an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher and previously served as an education specialist for bilingual-bicultural programs at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Since June 2019, she has been a policy intern and legislative and policy assistant in the Office of Gov. Tony Evers.
Another La Follette School student, Hayley Young, participated in Emerge Wisconsin before being elected to the Dane County Board of Supervisors in 2016. La Follette School alumnae who graduated from Emerge Wisconsin’s program include Jennifer Johnson (MPA ’19) and Claire Zautke (MPA ’19).
