Alum Abe Rabinowitz will reflect on his public policy career with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at Policy and a Pint on Tuesday, December 3, at 5:30 p.m. at Brocach, 7 West Main Street.
Rabinowitz graduated from the La Follette School in 2000 and became a presidential management intern in the VA Central Office in the Office Policy and Planning in Washington, D.C. During his time in Washington, he also served as a special assistant to the secretary and deputy secretary of the department.
About five years later, he moved back to Madison to become the reports coordinator for the Veterans Integrated Service Network 12 of the Veterans Health Administration's cost accounting system, with broad reporting responsibilities for the 7 VA hospitals in Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
After two years, Rabinowitz became the financial officer for the Madison-area VA hospital. He is now deputy financial manager for VISN 12 with regional managerial responsibilities for the cost accounting system and budget management. VISN 12 serves almost 300,000 veteran patients and has an operating budget of more than $2 billion.
This Policy and a Pint is the last one for 2013.
