2019 alumna featured on PBS Wisconsin

Abby Swetz Abby Swetz

Abby Swetz (MPA ’19) spoke about the need for housing for survivors of domestic violence in Wisconsin during a segment of PBS Wisconsin’s Noon Wednesday on November 6, 2019.

Swetz, a policy and systems analyst for End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin, highlighted the links between domestic violence and homelessness. She also discussed how the demand for emergency and transitional housing for domestic violence victims in Wisconsin significantly outweighs its supply.

While Milwaukee County recently pledged $100,000 for emergency shelters for victims of domestic violence, Swetz said, the State Legislature’s homelessness bill does not address domestic violence. Funding for general shelter is extremely helpful for domestic violence survivors, she said.

End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin is a Madison-based nonprofit organization that provides safety and advocacy to those affected by domestic abuse.
