Wisconsin State Senator Chris Larson

Location: Wisconsin State Capitol (Madison, Wisconsin)
Organization Type: State Government
Policy Areas: Government and Constituent Relations

This summer, I had the opportunity to serve the role of Legislative Intern in the office of Wisconsin State Senator Chris Larson. I went into the office four days a week throughout the summer and plan to continue my internship through the fall semester. As an intern, my primary responsibilities are to respond to constituents who contacted our office about legislative or personal issues, keep up with local news and events in our district that the Senator and our constituents would be interested in, and keep track of contacts between our office and other offices and advocacy groups. I also had the opportunity to work on a summer-long project. For this project I got to research a topic I am passionate about, write a policy memo, and draft a piece of future legislation. I also have had the opportunity to take on other duties such as assisting in the writing press releases for the Senator, attending press conferences, and some other smaller scale projects. This experience enhanced my knowledge of legislative processes and state politics. It also allowed me to gain first-hand experience with a vast array of policy areas ranging from healthcare, to the environment, to professional licensing, and education, among many others.
