Internship Location: Madison WI
Organization Type: State Government
Policy Areas: Health, gun safety, child care, education, constituent communication
First and foremost, during my internship, I learned a great deal about how state government works. It was especially exciting to do so while the legislature was actively working to pass the budget, and to work alongside a freshman legislator—getting to learn and navigate the process together. My supervisors were very supportive and encouraged me to pursue any projects that I found interesting. I also had the opportunity to sit in on a variety of briefings and lobby meetings on fascinating topics. I would recommend this experience to future students because it offers the chance to learn about state government and gain exposure to a wide range of careers within politics, which has been valuable for career exploration. Overall, it has been a rewarding experience, and the knowledge and insights I’ve gained have been invaluable.
