Internship Location: Remote
Organization Type: Nonprofit
Policy Areas: Health policy
This summer, I interned with the Wisconsin Rare Disease Alliance, where I was involved in economic burden analysis and public advocacy. What struck me was the critical role that data analysis plays in developing effective policy, and I gained a deeper understanding of rare diseases. The analytical skills I learned at the La Follette School of Public Affairs helped me conduct in-depth economic analyses during my internship and directly informed policy recommendations. To my surprise, policy advocacy was much more complex than I expected. The most rewarding part of the program was being able to see the theories I learned in the classroom put to work in the real world. I would highly recommend this internship to prospective students because this internship gave me an understanding of how data influences the creation of policy.
