Wisconsin Legislative Assembly

Internship Location: Madison WI

Organization Type: State Government

Policy Areas: Social welfare, local government

My experience as an intern with the Wisconsin Legislative Assembly was incredibly impactful, both personally and professionally. This internship provided me practical experience with public service and meso-level policy applications that I had not yet had the opportunity to explore outside of the classroom or in previous positions. Over this time, through conversations and experiences at work, I gained valuable perspectives and advice on my future career aspirations. I transferred skills between the workplace and classroom, and strengthened my desire to pursue public affairs. The experience also further developed a number of practical professional skills. A large portion of the workload consisted of constituent correspondence, as well as research and briefings on local policy developments. These tasks require thoughtful communication strategies and the utilization of numerous writing styles, as well as thorough research conducted in a timely manner. I would recommend considering an internship with the Wisconsin Assembly to those who are interested in careers related to government affairs, but unsure of where to start. It provides numerous networking opportunities and ways to explore your individual policy interests.
