Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC)

Internship Location: Madison, WI

Organization Type: State Government

Policy Areas: Economic Development

I have been fortunate enough to work on the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s (WEDC) Strategic Investment and Policy team for the past 10 months. Through this position I have learned a lot about the collaboration level across the organization to allocate funding, and how a quasi-public firm operates in conjunction with the state. I gained experience performing policy research and compiling important information into policy memos to share with executives at WEDC as well as our partners. I also focused on sending a weekly report out to WEDC’s partners about the successes at the corporation for the week as well as data analytics through spreadsheet manipulation for awards given. WEDC also prepared me for tracking legislation through many different outlets and exposed me to the legislative hearing process and responding to constituents. While the internship has been mostly virtual, WEDC as a whole does a great job of fostering connections between teammates and emphasizes the importance of the desk chatter that happens at an in-person work environment. This time has allowed me to learn a lot about my own working style as well as those of my co-workers and how to best work together to efficiently get work done.
