During my time at the Department of Health Services, I was able to learn a lot about state agencies and federal policy. LaFollette has been exceptionally helpful in landing this opportunity, from helping me find the internship, to assigning relevant classwork that I used as writing samples in my application. What was most surprising about my internship through SWSDIP, was the opportunities I had outside of traditional internship work. I was able to work across different departments and divisions of the agency, and even attend state legislature public hearings for personal interest and growth. I would recommend this opportunity to students who don’t have much internship experience, as they are very welcoming to undergraduate students. My internship was fully remote with in-office opportunities for networking and SWSDIP events. This internship helped my future by forming strong connections to multiple individuals who have had vast government experience over their respective careers.
