Internship Location: Madison WI
Organization Type: State Government
Policy Areas: Agriculture and Dairy, Artificial Intelligence, and Local Issues
This summer I interned for Representative Clinton Anderson’s office in the Wisconsin Assembly. This experience was extremely informative and very exciting. Even though the assembly was not in session, I had multiple opportunities to gain hands on experience with legislation. I researched, read, and studied a variety of policy areas where I put my policy skills to use. I was fully immersed in the legislative process and had the opportunity to attend multiple meetings, including Joint Finance Committee sessions. Anderson’s office works very closely with the constituents in the district. Interacting directly with constituents was something I did not think I would enjoy, but I learned valuable communication skills that are vital in my future endeavors. My favorite part of this experience was researching agricultural policy. The office knew I was interested in dairy and agricultural policy and let me research policies relating to dairy processing. I was very happy to gain knowledge on a topic I am interested in pursuing in the future, while also learning about new and exciting topics like artificial intelligence. I am so grateful for the guidance in Clinton Anderson’s office. When I struggled to understand legislative processes, political jargon, current events, or anything else, they took the time to explain it to me. When I found something useful or exciting, the office listened and found important ways to use my research. My experience in Clinton Anderson’s office taught me so much, but also made me feel heard and important.
