WisCaregivers Careers is a program dedicated to alleviating the pressing shortage of healthcare workers, specifically Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), within the state of Wisconsin. Our mission is to address this shortage by facilitating the training and certification of potential CNAs who are concurrently employed at participating nursing homes within our program. To realize this vision, we have secured grants from both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the state government, ensuring that the potential CNAs can receive training free of cost to themselves. In my role as an intern, I actively contributed to various facets of the program, including customer service, database management, and resolution of reimbursement issues. One of my main responsibilities was communicating with and between nursing homes and potential CNAs to answer all questions and resolve any issues. I became more familiar with the TMU system and how reimbursements work through BakerTilly during these problem resolutions. This experience has been instrumental in broadening my comprehension of the operational dynamics within nursing homes, shedding light on the essential steps involved in financial reimbursement processes. By delving into customer service, I honed my communication skills and gained insights into the needs and concerns of program participants. Additionally, my involvement in database management sharpened my organizational abilities and underscored the importance of meticulous record-keeping in the healthcare sector. My internship with WisCaregivers Careers has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted aspects that contribute to the smooth functioning of nursing homes. Beyond the theoretical knowledge, I have gained practical insights into the challenges and intricacies of the healthcare industry, positioning me to make meaningful contributions in this industry in the future.
