Internship Location: Madison WI
Organization Type: Private sector
Policy Areas: Health policy and Corporate Responsibility
During my internship as a Community Manager and Health Equity Intern, I was able to contribute to the company’s mission of making healthcare accessible, affordable, and personalized. My work focused on promoting health equity, specifically by making sure to address language barriers in retail pharmacy settings. I made bilingual communication tools and resources, including QR codes for quick translation assistance in 14 languages, to improve customer service for non-English speaking communities. Also, I made a staff resource guide to help increase cultural competency in the pharmacy and store staff as well. My internship let me have a chance to connect with professionals across the company, as I had the opportunity to shadow eight different individuals, and they each provided input on policy-related projects. This experience touched on the importance of communication in healthcare and the role that corporate responsibility plays in public health advocation as well. So overall, this internship really bridged the gap between public policy and real life application in healthcare delivery and introduced me to new opportunities in the field as well.
