Working with UW CTRI has allowed me to gain personal insight into the research process and the interconnectedness of research and policy. I had the opportunity to work with study participants virtually to help them quit smoking and researched the best methods to motivate people. Collecting the data has been very meaningful to me as I have many family members who are smokers. I also really enjoyed talking with researchers within the center who often are consulted by local and federal governments on possible policy implementations that connect to tobacco. Policy and research are truly the epicenter of public health and I was so happy to see it first hand.
