Internship Location: Remote
Organization Type: Nonprofit
Policy Areas: Environmental policy
My internship with TurnUp Activism has been an enriching experience, providing me with valuable insights into community engagement, policy research, and nonprofit work. Through my focus on reproductive justice and climate change, I gained a deeper understanding of the intricacies of policy impact and the effectiveness of different state approaches to climate issues. Focusing specifically on climate policy, I delved into how the state of Wisconsin addresses climate issues through its transportation policies. I learned about the state’s initiatives aimed at creating a more sustainable transportation system and reducing its carbon footprint. This research involved examining how Wisconsin’s approach to climate policy aligns with broader environmental goals and the state’s strategic priorities. Furthermore, the internship provided a practical application of various public policy theories covered in introductory courses. By connecting theoretical concepts to real-world policy implementation, I gained insights into how state governments operate, allocate funding, and enact policies. Understanding the interaction between policy theory and actual practice showed me how Wisconsin prioritizes and funds climate initiatives, and what we can work on as a state.
