For the 2022-2023 academic year, I have had the opportunity to pursue a fellowship for Re:wild Your Campus. Re:wild Your Campus is a campaign that started at UC-Berkeley in 2017 as a start-up idea that was based on minimizing the use of herbicides on campus grounds. Two years later, the campaign had started expanding to multiple universities across the United States as a student campaign and a fellowship program for currently enrolled students. Upon entering the fellowship, students are provided with resources, live training, and one-on-one coaching sessions to build and maintain their on-campus campaign. Through the innovative fellowship, students gain valuable skills that can be applied to future environmental, social, and political activism efforts. Pursuing this fellowship has given me an amazing opportunity to get involved in the sustainability issues on campus, make connections with various student organizations and campus faculty, and spread awareness about the importance of the issue that is being addressed through fellowship effort, and working towards establishing organic land management practices on campus. UW-Madison is a campus that uses a lot of artificial turf, especially on its athletic fields and important campus grounds like Bascom Hill, Alumni Park etc. Although 2022-2023 has been Re:wild’s first year at UW-Madison, it has been a very successful year resulting in the approval of transitioning certain campus grounds to organic land management. Fellowship positions recruited on a yearly basis. It has been a great experience and has been a pleasure to be involved in the sustainable initiatives at UW-Madison. https://www.rewild.org/rewild-your-campus
