Our team analyzed the health, climate, and equity implications of the Inflation Reduction Act. Our goal in doing a deep dive analysis of the IRA is to create a database/table that is easily accessible and easy to comprehend and provide feedback and recommendations of changes/ ways to implement the policy better based on health, equity, and climate. After analyzing, we are writing memos to help guide advocates when implementing the IRA. Since the implementation stage is just starting, we are trying to influence the process to have the best health, equity, and climate effects. The Inflation and Reduction Act was passed by the Biden Administration in August of 2022 that reinstates and creates new tax laws that affect both businesses and individuals, which includes tax credits and deductions. In the IRA, there is an investment in clean energy and investment of domestic energy production and lowering carbon emissions, as well as efforts to lower drug prices and healthcare costs, all while raising revenue. As an undergraduate policy analyst for the Patz Lab, I am able to contribute to a multifaceted project that allows me to learn about many policy sectors.
