Internship Location: Madison WI
Organization Type: Local Government
Policy Areas: Government/Insurance Trends
My internship with the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance gave me hands-on experience analyzing auto insurance claim denials and trends in property & casualty coverage. I learned a lot about the insurance industry’s regulatory environment and how policies are shaped by state-level regulations. The skills I’ve been learning at La Follette, particularly in data analysis and policy evaluation, were directly applicable, helping me analyze complex issues and communicate my findings clearly. I was surprised by how much collaboration and networking played a role in shaping policy decisions. The most valuable part of the internship was the opportunity to apply classroom concepts to real-world problems, especially in regulatory policy. I would absolutely recommend this internship to future students because it offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in public policy and regulatory work. It helped me think more critically about my future career and the impact of regulatory work, and it reinforced my interest in pursuing a career where I can make a difference in public policy and governance.
