Office of Representative Robert Brooks of the 60th District

Internship Location: Madison, WI

Organization Type: State Government

Policy Areas: Housing, Urban Development, Supply Chain, and Trade

This spring, I had the great opportunity to intern for the Office of Representative Robert Brooks of the 60th District. This experience provided me exposure to how policy is conducted, the pace of government, and the ability to make connections with those in government. I worked closely with Myka Olsen and Christopher Schafer. My typical day consisted of providing feedback and general notes on bills Representative Brooks would vote upon. Other items I worked on were updating the constituent database and reading local papers to highlight the success of individuals in the district. This was one of my favorite tasks as I got to learn about the liveliness of the district and ensure that the individual was seen by those representing them. I also was able to sit in and host my own meetings with Wisconsin nonprofits and create summaries for Representative Brooks to review. My favorite meetings were learning about projects in rural Wisconsin that needed funding because it showed how strong rural communities advocate to make their cities great. It made me excited to have the ability to help them! Overall, my experience was exceptional, and I am very grateful to have been able to learn from everyone in office. It has made me reflect on the policy knowledge I have gained through the certificate program and what I can do going forward to make a difference in Wisconsin.
