Office of Representative Christine Sinicki of the 20th Assembly District

Internship Location: Madison WI

Organization Type: State Government

Policy Areas: Jobs & Economy, K-12 Education, Women’s Rights, Environmental Protection, Veterans

During my experience as an intern for the Office of Representative Christine Sinicki of the 20th Assembly District, I learned how policy is created and flows through the bodies within state government. I was also exposed to the length of time it takes to pass legislation and for it to become state law. Typically, I would come into the office and primarily work on updating the database for constituents and draft letters to answer constituent mail. On other days I would attend briefings and public hearings which provided me with opportunities to listen to different opinions on specific bills. Furthermore, as a member of the Joint Finance Committee, Rep. Sinicki’s office received many inquiries about the state budget. As a result, I learned about the importance of the budget and was able to better understand how funding can impact how effectively organizations and state agencies serve communities in Wisconsin. Overall, I am grateful to be able to meet and work with other members of Rep. Sinicki’s office and would recommend any student to intern at the Wisconsin State Legislature as the experience helped me grow and reflect on my learning as a student.
