Internship Location: Madison WI
Organization Type: State Government
Policy Areas: Broad spectrum
During my time as a Constituent Services Intern, I learned about the role of the Governor’s staff in obtaining feedback from constituents and how this is used in policy building. I also learned about current policies going through the State by speaking with constituents and then doing personal research on these issues. La Follette has taught me to be mindful of other people’s values and how this drives policymaking and relationship-building. This skill was critical while speaking with constituents and to understanding the motivations behind others’ policy proposals. I recommend working in the Governor’s Office to anyone interested in gaining hands-on experience in a political office and learning more about constituents’ role in policy formation. The skills I have acquired from the Governor’s Office will be crucial in my future workplaces. For example, having the ability to speak and relate to people from all backgrounds is something I honed in during my time here. Moreover, learning to communicate professionally is universally used, and I had ample opportunities to develop this skill during my time here. Don’t hesitate to apply to the Governor’s Office; it is an opportunity you will not regret taking!
