Office of Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08)

Internship Location: Washington DC

Organization Type: Federal Government

Policy Areas: LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, environmental protection, women’s issues, and judicial oversight

During my internship in the Office of Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, I had the opportunity to gain a deep insight into the federal policy-making process. I researched legislation and drafted policy memos, analyzed bill trends and monitored votes, attended congressional hearings and briefings to support legislative decisions, and provided constituent services and front-of-office support. One of the most valuable aspects of this internship was being able to connect with alumni and staff working on Capitol Hill. I had numerous invaluable conversations, made strong connections, and gained clarity on what I want my path to look like in the future. I have also been able to use my strong policy skills while gaining new skills such as oral communication, bill tracking, and a stronger comprehensive idea of the legislative process. Overall, this experience has given me clarity on my strong passion for public policy and has allowed me to put the skills I have learned at La Follette to use. I would strongly recommend this internship to anyone looking to explore public policy at a federal level!
