Lab for Family Wellbeing and Justice

Internship Location: Madison WI

Organization Type: State Government

Policy Areas: Criminal Justice

My internship as a research assistant taught me invaluable skills applicable to research, policy analysis, or the business sector. Through this position, I got to work very closely with a PI on the data analysis of a program implemented in one jail and four prisons across Wisconsin. I learned how to think critically about social issues through a data-driven lens while also learning about the policy implications that arise from work like this. I would definitely recommend this internship to future students – it’s a friendly work and learning environment for all. I also recommend this position to students that want to work directly as an agent of change; this position is very hands on, and interns get to work directly with incarcerated parents and caregivers. After this position, I hope to continue working on research in the criminal justice sector, as I was very inspired by the work my PI and colleagues do.
