Internship Location: Isanti, MN
Organization Type: Private Sector
Policy Areas: Health/Childcare
I was able to learn how this childcare facility operates at the business/policy level while also getting the opportunity to have hands-on experience working with children with an age range of 6 weeks to 12 years old. On the policy side, I was able to learn about how policy adherence and following dictated many different factors in this business’s operations to ensure they were upholding their promise to provide quality care for the families. La Follette helped me with this, as I now have a better grasp on how policies are created, formulated, and adapted to shape the operations of an organization. I was able to take a long way from this opportunity, and something that stuck out to me was just how much goes on “behind the scenes” in a company to maintain the day-to-day operations. Krayola Kids not only had to coordinate with families, staff, and children but they also were required to keep external partners, like the Minnesota Department of Health, to continue providing the best care for their community, ensuring the health and safety of all those utilizing Krayola Kids services. This internship experience will help me in any future career, as I was able to witness how policy-making is one of the most foundational, but intricate parts of a business’s ability to operate successfully.
