Flywheel Government Solutions

Internship Location: Washington DC

Organization Type: Private

Policy Areas: Energy policy

I interned at a small bi-partisan lobbying company in Washington D.C. called Flywheel Government Solutions. It was a great experience to learn more about the intersection of private and public sectors. I was able to do research on topics I was interested in, not just topics they assigned for me. It was very flexible and everyone there wanted to help me succeed. One of the biggest positives I took away from this internship was that I now have a small network of people in the city I can reach out to and want me to succeed. The work they had me do was fulfilling enough and I was able to use skills I learned from previous coursework to make the job easier. I had to write memos to clients, present data and write for a newsletter, all of these tasks I have had previous experience in with public affairs classes. Also being in D.C. allowed me to attend a multitude of conferences and hearings that I found interesting. The company allowed me to go to any conference during the work hours that I was interested in as well as a few required ones. I have held a past internship and the State Capitol building and enjoyed that but I was excited to try something new and not work directly in the government but with the government. The internship really helped me figure out a better idea of what career to look toward after graduation. I would recommend this internship to anybody that wants a flexible internship in Washington D.C.
