Early Childhood Health Consultation

Internship Location: Madison WI

Organization Type: Nonprofit

Policy Areas: Health

I would absolutely recommend this internship to future students. I really enjoyed getting first-hand experience into what goes into health policy changes through the Department of Children and Families. I definitely think that the skills I learned through courses at La Follette helped me in this internship as well, especially with having a basis of knowledge of health policy and different levels of government and organizations that play a role in it. I also think that La Follette courses taught me very important skills for communication in professional settings, whether that be team meetings or interviews. This was especially helpful for me in guiding my day to day interactions with my coworkers, and it taught me that team work is very valuable and every person brings a unique perspective, knowledge, and background. Overall, the most important thing I learned during my time in my internship was the importance of taking initiative in order to make changes you feel are important, which can go for any policy-related situations. I also learned a lot about different health consultation programs in different states and what they do compared to us, which further helped me understand what my organization does and their importance.
