Climate Solutions for Health Lab

Internship Location: Madison WI

Organization Type: Nonprofit

Policy Areas: Environment / Health  policy

Through my time in the Climate Solutions for Health Lab, I have been able to analyze bills as well as write policy memos. I researched the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, specifically the transportation section, for how it impacts climate, health, and equity. Being in this position taught me new skills such as writing policy memos. I was able to learn how to analyze information more clearly and directly. What surprised me the most about this internship was the difficulty in analyzing bills. I thought it would be more straightforward, but I’ve learned that is untrue. It takes time to properly read these bills and to understand what is being said. It is hard work to read and analyze pages of text, but when you are passionate about the subject and dedicated to change it makes the job easier. I am very grateful that I’ve been able to learn more about the climate crisis. I’ve realized how urgent the situation is and through policy and several other changes, hopefully, we can make a change. I would recommend this internship to students interested in climate, health, and policy. This internship allowed me to further explore those interests while gaining new skills and learning lessons. It allowed me to make connections that taught me more about climate and policy. This internship further reinforced why I want to be in the policy world. I would like to continue working in policy. I am not sure what that would look like but I am excited to explore the possibilities.
