Babcock Dairy

Internship Location: Madison WI

Organization Type: Nonprofit

Policy Areas: Food safety /Labor policy

This internship provided me with valuable insights and deepened my interest in the dairy industry. One of the most significant skills I brought to the internship came from my studies at the La Follette School, where I developed strong policy writing abilities. Being able to translate real-world problems into policy language and propose actionable solutions was the most important skill I applied during this experience. What surprised me the most about this internship was the level of responsibility I was given. As a young student, many of the jobs I’ve held in the past have limited my participation in certain tasks, often reserving those for management-level staff. However, Babcock Dairy allowed me to directly engage with the actual Food Safety Specialist’s work. Gaining hands-on experience in creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials was both surprising and valuable. This internship was unique in another way—it was a new, trial-run position specifically created for myself. Their flexibility and trust in my capabilities were incredible, and I truly appreciated the opportunity. I would highly recommend working for this organization. This experience allowed me to gain practical knowledge in dairy manufacturing, which played a significant role in securing a full-time position as a Supply Chain Trainee at a large cheese and dairy manufacturing company after my graduation in May.
