Internship Location: Morristown NJ
Organization Type: Private sector
Policy Areas: Health policy
My internship at Atlantic Health System gave me a different perspective on health policy and government affairs. I learned about some of the active issues affecting healthcare in New Jersey and gained insight into the process of advocacy and lobbying. One of the most surprising things about my internship was the broad range of topics and policy areas I covered. The legislation and regulations that affect a hospital system go beyond health policy to labor, education, and environmental policy, which I did not expect. As much of my role as an intern was analyzing and summarizing legislation to communicate to others, the policy analysis skills I learned at La Follette were critical to my experience. Beyond this, my internship experience encouraged me to consider a future in corporate advocacy and government affairs, a path I had not previously thought of for myself. My internship was a worthwhile experience that I gained a lot from, personally and professionally.
