Internship Location: Annapolis MD
Organization Type: Local Government
Policy Areas: Health and Environment
My experience at the Anne Arundel County Department of Health (AACDOH) taught me more about the intersection of the environment and policy—-something which had been lacking in my major studies. The courses I have taken in the La Follette School aided my understanding of how organizations may attempt to lessen their administrative burdens, the way nudging and sludging are used to steer people in specific directions, and the importance of policy analysis. All of these lessons were extremely valuable during my internship in the sense that they allowed me to participate and understand conversations which I would not have otherwise. I would certainly recommend this internship for future students. The bureau of Environmental Health at the AACDOH is filled with some of the most caring, passionate, and thoughtful people I have ever worked alongside. They are fantastic mentors and are always there to give advice or answer questions. Plus, the majority of your days will be spent outside at the beach—what’s not to love!
